When the stadium opened in 1997, it lacked a roof—a limitation that proved problematic as weather delays mounted year after year. To address this, a lightweight retractable roof was installed and completed in 2016, giving the tournament greater control over scheduling. Players entering the court pass through an entrance passageway marked by a plaque bearing words from Billie Jean King: "Pressure is a privilege." It's a fitting reminder at one of tennis's most demanding stages.
