Home to FC Augsburg, the WWK Arena sits in Bavaria and serves as the club's primary venue for matches. The stadium currently holds 30,660 people, combining 19,060 seats with standing room for 11,034. Future expansion plans could push capacity to 49,000. FC Augsburg first took the pitch here in 2009, moving from their previous home at Rosenaustadion. The venue has worn several names since opening. It launched as Impuls Arena before SGL Carbon acquired naming rights in 2011 for a seven-year term. WWK, an insurance company, took over the naming rights on 1 July 2015, giving the ground its current identity. The stadium gained international prominence as an official host venue for both the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup and the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, hosting group-stage and quarterfinal matches. A distinctive feature sets this ground apart: it holds the distinction of being the world's first climate-neutral football stadium. Six ecological heat pumps operating at 40 metres deep maintain temperature control through heat exchangers, whilst a bio natural gas boiler supplies additional energy during peak match-day demand. The stadium has also hosted a Germany national team match and earned the nickname "Anfield of the B17 highway" after a memorable 2016 Europa League encounter.
