Genoa's shared home of football sits in the Marassi neighbourhood and has hosted both Genoa C.F.C. and U.C. Sampdoria since opening in 1911. That longevity makes it Italy's oldest stadium still in active use for football and other sports, giving it genuine historical weight as a venue. The ground bears the name of Luigi Ferraris, an Italian footballer and engineer who also served as a soldier and died during the First World War. Beyond the weekly football fixture, the stadium has occasionally welcomed rugby internationals involving the Italian national team, and has staged concerts from time to time, making it a genuinely multi-purpose space within the city.
