Parma's football club has called Stadio Ennio Tardini home since 1923, when the ground opened near the town centre between Parma's heart and its historic city walls. Named for a former club president, the stadium has evolved considerably over its century-long history. It ranks among Italy's oldest football grounds still in active use, and holds the distinction of being Emilia–Romagna's second-largest venue. The Tardini underwent major transformation during the 1990s under Parmalat's stewardship, with significant expansion work substantially increasing its capacity. The ground has hosted numerous Italian national team matches following these improvements, cementing its status as a key football venue. Whilst expansion plans were drawn up during Italy's bid to host Euro 2016—proposals that would have further enlarged the stadium—the ground continues to serve as a vital fixture in Italian football infrastructure.
