Lord's sits in St John's Wood, a corner of London now within the City of Westminster. The Marylebone Cricket Club owns the ground and calls it home, alongside Middlesex County Cricket Club and the England and Wales Cricket Board. The International Cricket Council was based here until August 2005. The venue carries the nickname "home of cricket" and hosts the world's oldest sporting museum. What visitors see today is actually the third incarnation of Thomas Lord's vision—he established grounds between 1787 and 1814, with earlier sites abandoned as London developed around them, including one that gave way to Regent's Canal. The current ground holds 31,100 spectators, with capacity expanded between 2017 and 2022 as part of ongoing redevelopment by the MCC.
