London Stadium stands in the Stratford district, roughly 10 kilometres east of central London's heart. Built for the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, it served as the centrepiece for track-and-field events and both opening and closing ceremonies. Since then, it's been reimagined as a multi-purpose venue, now primarily home to Premier League football club West Ham United. Beyond football, the stadium hosts world-class athletics, including the annual London Grand Prix, a round of the IAAF Diamond League. It staged the 2017 IAAF World Championships and 2017 World Para Athletics Championships—a historic first for both events in one location and year. The venue has also welcomed rugby, baseball, and concerts, accommodating up to 80,000 spectators depending on the event. Its flexible design, with relocatable seating and an oval footprint, means it can adapt to different sports. In 2019, it made headlines as the venue for the first regular-season Major League Baseball game ever played in Europe.
