Carrow Road has been home to Norwich City since 1935, when the club purpose-built the ground in just 82 days. The stadium sits towards the east of Norwich, close to the railway station and the River Wensum. Before moving here, Norwich City played at two earlier grounds—first Newmarket Road, then The Nest—but those venues couldn't cope with the growing crowds. The ground has undergone significant changes over the decades. A fire destroyed the old City Stand in 1984, prompting major rebuilding work. The stadium converted to all-seater status in 1992, a shift that reduced capacity considerably from the 43,984 who watched an FA Cup tie against Leicester City in 1963. Today it holds 27,359, with the record all-seater attendance of 27,137 set during a Premier League match against Newcastle United in 2016. Beyond matchdays, Carrow Road has hosted under-21 international football and concerts from major artists. The site itself includes catering facilities and a Holiday Inn hotel, where guests can book rooms with views overlooking the pitch.
