Liverpool F.C. have called Anfield home since the club's formation in 1892, though the ground's earlier history belongs to Everton, who played there from 1884 until a dispute with the club president prompted their move to Goodison Park. Today, the stadium holds 61,276 supporters, making it England's fifth-largest football ground. Four stands frame the pitch: the Spion Kop, the Main Stand, the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand, and the Anfield Road End. The stadium converted to all-seater configuration in 1994 following the Taylor Report, a change that reduced capacity from its record attendance of 61,905, set during a Liverpool versus Wolverhampton Wanderers match in 1952. Gates named after former managers Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley reflect the club's heritage, as do bronze statues honouring both men outside the ground. Shankly's statue was unveiled in 1997 by the Kop Stand; Paisley's followed in 2020 by the Main Stand. Recent years have seen substantial investment. A major extension to the main stand opened in September 2016, whilst the Anfield Road Stand redevelopment finished in 2024, bringing capacity above 61,000. The ground sits roughly 2 miles from Liverpool Lime Street railway station.
