It has been on the Grand Prix motorcycle calendar since 1950, making it one of the oldest events on the calendar. The race is currently held at the Circuito de Jerez - Angel Nieto, a city in southern Spain's Andalusia region.

Unsurprisingly, the most succesful rider here is Angel Nieto, after whom the circuit was named. Nito has 7 wins in the premier class (125cc), and 4 wins at 50cc. Angel Nieto is followed closely by Valentino Rossi on 6 wins at MotoGP, and a win in each of the 500cc, 250cc and 125cc divisions.
