The home of the Japanese MotoGP has been the Montegi circuit since 2004. Before then it was held at Suzuka and Fuji. The Motegi Circuit is located 2 hours drive from Tokyo, making it a very convenient location from most international airports.

Ducati is the only other manufacturer to win at the top category. American Kevin Schwantz is the most successful rider at the top category with 4 wins. Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi share second place with 3 wins each.
